The situation of the American officer who attempted self-immolation in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., is concerning. On Sunday afternoon, the officer tried to set himself on fire, but the personnel of the U.S. Secret Service present at the scene managed to extinguish the fire and transported the severely affected individual to the hospital.
The incident has been confirmed by the U.S. Air Force, but the identity of the officer who attempted self-immolation has not been disclosed.
Law enforcement agencies, the Secret Service, and other authorities are conducting investigations into the matter.
The U.S. Air Force officer livestreamed a video on 'Twitch' before attempting self-immolation, introducing himself and stating that he is a current service member of the U.S. Air Force. Before setting himself on fire, he mentioned that he would not be participating in "genocide" and, at the moment of the incident, was heard chanting "Free Palestine."
Following the incident, the Bomb Disposal Unit officers were sent to the scene due to suspicion regarding the presence of a vehicle associated with the involved officer.
No staff member of the Israeli Embassy was injured in the incident. The embassy spokesperson confirmed that none of their personnel were familiar with the officer involved in the incident.
This is not the first time someone has attempted self-immolation in front of an Israeli diplomatic mission in the United States. In December of last year, a person protesting in front of the Israeli Consulate in Georgia set themselves on fire. According to the police, the individual used gasoline for self-immolation, and a Palestinian flag was found at the scene.
